Jessica and Chris held their wedding at the Herrington Harbor Marina about thirty miles south of Annapoils, Maryland and just north of Chesapeake Beach.  Located right on the Chesapeake Bay it’s a beautiful location with several lawns for weddings and I’ve had the pleasure photographing weddings here several times.  Since Jessica and Chris were planning their wedding from North Carolina, Jessica’s mother and father took leading roles in many of the plans and details for their Maryland which for Jessica and Chris as well as Chris’ family ended up being a destination wedding not just for me, coming from San Diego, but for them as well.  While I was in Maryland last year, I had the opportunity to meet Jessica’s parents in person, but hadn’t yet met Jessica or Chris. After arriving at Herrington Harbor  I dropped off some equipment at the Yacht Club and walked the short distance to the room where Jessica was getting ready.  I hadn’t been to Herrington on the Bay in a while, and they have totally redone the hotel portion of their property, and it not only looks great, it photographs so much better![blog post continued below]

While Jessica was finishing up getting ready, I went back to the yacht club where the guys were hanging out prior to the ceremony. It was a hot and humid August day, so everyone was taking shelter and getting a drink before heading to the bridal lawn for the ceremony. After the ceremony guests went to the yacht club for cocktail hour while we stayed behind taking portraits at the docks and on the beach.  After Jessica and Chris joined their guests for the end of cocktail hour they were invited upstairs to dinner, and to a welcome from Jessica’s father, as well as toasts by Chris’ best man, and Jessica’s maid of honor.  Not to be out done by a blessing from Jessica’s niece.  After dinner, Jessica and Chris went back downstairs for their first dance accompanied by a few guests, while others stayed upstairs to watch the dancing below.  One of the unique features of the yacht club is the open ceiling on the first floor which gives a great view of the dance floor as well as the second level.  After their dances and cake cutting, guests started moving to the dance floor, and before the end of the night, Chris and Jessica joined in and danced until the last song.

I met Jean and Frank at Cylburn Arboretum for their engagement shoot just two weeks before their wedding.  Jean contacted me in San Diego back in March as she and Frank planned their wedding for the end of May.  Since I was traveling to Puerto Rico at the beginning of May and they wanted the opportunity to meet with me in person, and also wanted engagement photos, I decided to fly into Baltimore before flying on to Puerto Rico.  It was a beautiful fall afternoon in Maryland when we met at the Cylburn Arboretum; a secret gem of a location just north of Baltimore where you can roam the grounds and feel as if you’re the only one on the whole property.  After a glass of wine (or two) at Cylburn, we headed down to Fells Point for the cobblestone streets and brick row homes as well as the view over the harbor.

I had a great time hanging out with Jean and Frank for the afternoon, and can’t wait to share their wedding photos … coming soon! Check out a few more of their engagement photos below.

Catherine and Jeff were the last couple I met with and signed before Kristy and I decided to pack up our things and head across the country to restart our lives on the West Coast.  Since that time I have traveled back to the East Coast to document many weddings, and continue to get new couples in Maryland, Delaware and Virginia.  I absolutely love traveling back East to photograph weddings since it gives me the opportunity to experience the seasons that I don’t otherwise get now that I’m living in San Diego.

Catherine and her girls got ready at Catherine’s parent’s house and she and her father took a vintage car to the church where a bag piper was playing to Catherine’s arrival.  After the ceremony we drove to a nearby park where Catherine and Jeff had spent many dates, and was the site of Jeff’s proposal as well! Even though they got married on the 31st of October, it was far from a theme wedding, other than perhaps Fall themed, however Jeff’s guys decided they had to incorporate Halloween into the day and broke out sunglasses, fake mustaches and squeeky clown noses while we were shooting portraits.

The weather gods were not with me on this day however, and after raining on and off for most of the morning, the clouds finally opened up as Catherine and Jeff walked to the spot where Jeff proposed.  They were great sports though and even though it continued to rain we still stopped to grab some beautiful shots at the street leading to the park where we saw the most beautiful display of yellow leaves carpeting the road and still hanging from the trees.

The reception was held at The Mendenhall Inn and it was awesome! They incorporated a nod to the day by having candy jars for their guests to go trick-or-treating from.  The band ‘The Midnight Hour‘ rocked the reception from the introductions to the last dance!  These guys were amazing … Frank Sinatra, Etta James, Barry White, Black Eyed Peas, Justin Timberlake … really!? Yes, they pulled all of them off and got everyone on the dance floor! If you’re getting married in Delaware or Pennsylvania, I highly recommend checking them out! I have been looking forward to this wedding for over a year!  I met Heather and Chad at Rhiana and Doug’s wedding last year when at the end of the night Heather introduced herself, then introduced me to her boyfriend Chad proclaiming ‘Evan’s going to photograph our wedding!’  A couple months later Chad must have proposed because I received an excited phone call from Heather with several possible dates for her wedding and asking which dates I was available. I didn’t realize it at the time, but I had the priveledge of photographing several of Heather’s friends weddings in previous years and after Heather and I had the opportunity to chat about their plans, I knew this was going to be an awesome day!  

Heather and her girls got ready at Colleen, her Matron of Honor’s house, which was an absolutely beautiful location for all the girls.  And though the weather teased us with clouds and rain early, it stayed clear for photographs outside on the beautiful grounds around Colleen’s house.  Meanwhile, Jennifer went to hang out with the guys at Peabody Court where they were getting ready prior to the wedding.  They were married at Old St. Paul’s Parish which was actually the location of the very first wedding I ever photographed on my own.  After the ceremony, the guests all loaded up into a shuttle to be taken to the Baltimore Country Club which is a stunning and classic location for a wedding in Baltimore.  

Although the wedding was a black tie event Heather and Chad hired the band Oracle to kick out the jams, and as the night went on it turned into a regular hoe down replete with fiddle and lots of foot stomping.  It really was a celebration, and everyone got into the action and onto the dance floor.  I had an absolute blast at Heather and Chad’s wedding … check out the images below and the podcast slideshow too!

I met John and Katie in 2007 and their friends Keith and Alyson’s wedding.  John and Katie danced all night long, so I knew when they asked me to document their upcoming wedding that it was going to be a great time!  

They held their wedding at Celebrations on the Bay overlooking the Chesapeake Bay and Patapsco River.  The weather was iffy all day, dodging in and out from clear blue skies to ominous clouds over the bay.  But the rain held off until just after the cocktail hour, and we were able to have the ceremony and cocktail hour outside and then bring the dancing inside.  The band Prime Time rocked out all night long and even gave John and Katie turns on the mic … those two can sing too!

It was my first wedding back in Maryland that I got to shoot with my old associate photographer and friend JLowe and we had such a great time together.  I absolutely love shooting with her, and our styles blend so smoothly.
