And the hits just keep on coming! This has been an incredible week for me and just before I head out the door for a truly inspirational week at WPPI I received notice from the Wedding Wirethat I recieved the 2009 Bride’s Choice Award! Check out the announcement and badge below:
I’m super excited because I just found out one of my ‘Angel’ photographs from the Chrome Salon shoot was selected to be featured at the Canvas Complete booth in Las Vegas! This will be my third year going to WPPI, but my first having any of my images on display. It’s an incredible honor and I can’t wait to see which image they selected. If you check out Chrome salon, you’ll see a few of the images from the shoots I did with Rudy. We got some really incredible images thanks in large part to Rudy and Nicole Palermo’s awesome work. I chose a couple Angel photos because of how unique I think they are. I was excited to get back out to Vegas again, but now I’m totally pumped to get there, see everyone and check out how the ‘Angel’ looks.
Oh! Did I mention it’s getting printed as a 24×36? She’ll be coming home with me after the convention! Check out the images below. I’ll definitely post which one was selected as soon as I find out.
Special thanks again to Rudy of Chrome Salon for asking me to do this project with him, and of course Nicole Palermo for stepping outside the box and going with the white on white look I imagined, then kicking it up a notch! BAM!

February 19, 2009 - 4:49 pmShanna - Hey Evan! Rudy just told me your award and that's amazing! I was one of your angels (the lower picture) I had sent you an email, but Rudy told me I could check it out here! Congrats and way to go!!
February 12, 2009 - 2:20 pmJeff - WOW! 1) That's awesome and 2) Those are SICK images!! Congrats bro!! :)
I’m thrilled to have my photography included for the fourth year in a row in Baltimore Bride Magazine! Alicia and Jeremiah’s wedding was selected as a featured wedding and marks the third of my weddings to be published by Baltimore Bride. Even though I’m now located in San Diego, I still travel back to Maryland to shoot weddings, and visit family and friends, so this is a thrill to have another wedding featured in my old hometown. Check out the magazine spread below, and keep on the lookout for featured images in San Diego area magazines!
February 13, 2009 - 11:02 amEvan Bishop - Jeff, no real secret ... submit, submit, and then submit some more. OH! And if you can have a face to face meeting with the person looking at the photos do it! They're looking at tons of photographers work and if you can get yourself instead of just your photos in front of them you'll increase your chances greatly! I would say take awesome photos but that goes without saying for you :-)
February 12, 2009 - 2:22 pmJeff - Beautiful images - the layout looks great! You must share your getting published secrets with me!!
I had a great night last night! As many of you know I used to be the PUG – Pictage User Group leader in Baltimore; hosting monthly meetings between other Pictage photographers to talk shop, what’s new with the best event image hosting site around and what’s new with each other.
Well, last night was my first night attending the San Diego PUG and Jeff and Erin Youngren asked if I would speak about client consultations. I was completely thrilled, flattered, and even a bit nervous. I mean, I’m talking about how to handle initial consultations with potential clients with some really great photographers, most of whom I’d never met. The pressure was definitely on (at least in my head).
I was lucky enough to meet up with Jeff and Erin back in August when I was first considering moving to San Diego, and am truly thankful that they have been so wonderful to me. It was a great opportunity to meet everyone face to face, and an even better way to talk a bit about my work, and my approach to the business side of photography.
I shared the floor with Heather Moreau of Vallentyne Photographywho also shared her approach to meeting with and interviewing clients. All in all it seemed to go incredibly smooth and as Jeff and Erin had suggested, had a truly conversational tone. Of the over twenty photographers there, I didn’t see a single camera (myself included unless you consider the iPhone a camera) so I don’t have any images to share, but the December PUG is coming up, and I’m thinking there will be a lot of pictures and holiday cheer at that one!
Thanks to all the great photographers that came out to the PUG last night, listened and of course contributed. I hope it was half as insightful for you as it was for me.
Hey, it’s been a while since I posted to the San Diego blog, and I wanted to let you know everything is coming along with the move. We’re packing up our houses and I’m wrapping up the wedding season in Maryland, but I wanted to share a few photos from a Trash the Dress session I just shot out here! I had a great videographer, Monday Isacome out and shoot video of the session. We’re going to be working on a final version including some of the stills I took interspersed as well as some video of me (UGH!).
