Alfred Angelo is hosting a Girls Night Out at their Oceanside store on Thursday July 28th, 2011 from 6:00pm – 8:00pm. I’ll be there presenting my work, and offering special discounts to attendees. And demons too!  I had another great shoot with Rudy at Chrome Salons back in Maryland and have just started editing the demons.  Back in April we shot a second set of Angels for his submission to NAHA.  We shot the first round of Angels before his salon was officially opened and it was awesome.  We started with an idea, a concept really that I had in my head but had never shot and had no clue how it would turn out.  Amazingly it turned out just as we had all hoped it would.  Then I had a concept of how I wanted to shoot the demons … FAIL! big time!!!  Back to the drawing board, reconsider what was important in the photos, and Rudy and I came up with a completely new concept for the demons and I think it worked.  I’m really happy with the second set, and I’m just dropping a teaser image in today.  I’ll be posting more of both the Angels as well as this second set of Demons photos soon.

What happens when you sort through the thousands, and I mean tens of thousands of images that you’ve shot in the previous year, select the few babies that you want to share with the world, and submit them to an international photography competition among some of the most amazing wedding photographers from around the world?  If you’re very lucky you get a nod for one or two of your images.  

So then what happens when your images place Second, Third, Fourth, Fifth, Seventh and Tenth in one of these competitions?  You hit your head on the ceiling from jumping out of your seat, your heart jumps into your throat, you try not to hold your hand to your mouth like you just won the Miss America pagent and you keep that ‘I just pray for world peace speech’ in your pocket.  

It is just a photo competition after all.

The International Society for Professional Wedding Photographers holds quarterly photography competitions for their members from over 30 countries around the world.  The photographers are accepted into the society based on portfolio review, and references from other photography professionals so membership in itself is an honor.  I’m thrilled to announce that in the latest quarterly competition six of my images placed in the top ten in their respective categories placing me 12th among all ISPWP photographers worldwide.  

Many many thanks to all my couples who have again trusted me to document their wedding day in the past year.  Without their faith and trust in my photography I wouldn’t have a single image to submit to be considered for the competition.

It’s been long … too long since I last updated my blog and I want to apologize to those who faithfully check in to see what’s new. The truth is there’s a lot new, and there are going to be a ton of posts coming up soon, both personal and business related so keep tuned in and if you’re new to my blog, welcome!

As was the case last year, the winter months are a time of refueling, and rethinking who I am and what I do. This year is no different, and even more so than in previous years, because of my move to the West Coast.  San Diego has been amazing so far, I’ve already met so many wonderful people and amazingly reconnected with friends from my old home in Baltimore, MD that are also now living in this beautiful, wonderful city.  Kristy and I have spent the winter months getting to know the area as much as possible.  I spend many afternoons at dog beach with Boo and Jem, and we are members of the San Diego Zoo and Wild Animal Park as well as SeaWorld.  We’ve continued our quest to eat our way through this area by visiting as many amazing restaurants as possible everything from cheap eats dives to world renowned restaurants, from Chula Vista to Escondido.  

On the business end of things there’s been much brewing for me.  I have been working with Elevator Marketing in Oceanside, CA to redesign my logo and identity.  It’s provided me an opportunity to truly reflect on who I am as a photographer and what my personal strengths are.  In the upcoming posts you’ll get a first glance at the new logo.  It’s getting there, but not 100% complete.  Once it is, there’s printing and web redesign to do, so get ready for a new look and a whole new website too!  I’ve also had an exciting off season with the business by placing three top twenty images in the WPJA’s 2009 end of year photo competition and being accepted into the International Society for Professional Wedding Photographers.

There will be so many upcoming changes for me in the coming months all while wedding season is ramping up.  I’m excited and a bit overwhelmed.
