I recently traveled back to Baltimore for Susan and Sascha’s wedding at the beautiful and unique location of the Louisiana Restaurant in historic Fells Point.  It was a beautiful day in Baltimore as Sascha and her girls as well as Sascha and his guys got ready in the East Harbor area.  We had time before their ceremony to do portraits of the bridal party, then hopped in the shuttle for the short ride across town through Fells Point and to the beautiful Louisiana Restaurant for their ceremony and reception.  The Louisiana Restaurant is just off of Broadway taking up the former façade of two baltimore row homes.

Susan and Sascha’s friends and family sat in the main dining room at the back of the restaurant and watched as Sascha and Susan exchanged vows and rings in front of a beautiful staircase.  After the ceremony we all rode the shuttle down to the historic Fells Point Pier for family portraits as well as photos with Sascha and Susan and their bridal party.  After the families and bridal party were shuttled back to the Louisiana Restaurant for the final half of the cocktail hour, Susan and Sascha and I went on to the Red Star … the site of their first date.  We photographed not only out front of the restaurant, but also beneath the tree just down the street which was where they actually first met.

As the clouds gathered and threatened to pour down rain, we finished a few final portraits before returning back to the Louisiana Restaurant for their reception.  It was a beautiful and unique wedding.

Heather grew up in Los Altos Hills, just outside of Palo Alto, and Stanford University about a half an hour south of San Francisco and due west of San Jose, California.  Her family still lives in the home that her mother grew up in and her grandmother still lives there as well.  So when Heather … aka “Biz” moved to Maryland and met Sean she always knew her wedding would still be back in Los Altos where she had grown up.  Sean on the other hand, is a native Marylander, and I had the pleasure of photographing his sister Noelle’s wedding several years ago before I moved to San Diego.  So I was thrilled when Sean contacted me to see if I would be able to travel to what would be for both Sean and Heather, their destination wedding in Los Altos Hills.

Kristy and I traveled north to San Jose on Friday before Heather and Sean’s wedding, and spent the afternoon scouting locations for portraits.  We found that next to the garden where Heather and Sean were holding their ceremony as well as cocktail hour and their reception there was a beautiful Redwood grove with amazing light filtering through the ancient and giant trees.  The next day, Kristy and I met Heather and her girls at her family’s home while the girls got ready.  From there we went to the Sequoia grove to photograph Heather and her girls before the ceremony.  Later, Sean and his guys would meet us here, and I absolutely loved the Maryland belt buckles that Sean had given to all of his groomsmen.  Heather’s lace dress, her girls pale blue skirts, and Sean and his guys linen pants were such classic looks for their garden wedding.

The ceremony was presided over by a close friend of Heather and Sean, while both of their father’s provided words of wisdom about marriage.  The cocktail hour was hosted in the garden beneath the giant redwood trees and family photos were strung between the trees.  The main hall of Shoup Park had been transformed into a beautiful space and even included the Maryland flag proudly displayed by the stage.  Sean’s grooms cake was a bucket of steamed maryland blue crabs with Old Bay and Natty Boh! LOVE the Maryland Pride!

Betsy and John’s wedding was held in Baltimore, during one of the hottest Junes on record.  I traveled from 73° San Diego, to the scorching Baltimore heat for their beautiful wedding.  I arrived early the week before their wedding for a few other photoshoots, and the temperature fluctuated from the mid 90s and up into the 100s the whole week.  On the morning of their wedding the temperature was already 101° at 11:00am as I drove towards the hotel where John and his groomsmen would be getting ready when my iPhone rang.  It was John, touching base with me to make sure I would be at the hotel, and to know what he needed to do.  I explained that I would be just photographing him with his guys hanging out before they got ready for the wedding.  He told me they were just sitting around the pool and I was excited about getting to photography him and his guys just relaxing … all except for the 101° and wearing all black while photographing him and the guys hanging out in the pool.  Then he said … and I quote “do you want a bathing suit?”  Yes Please!!! What a fantastic way to start their wedding day for both him and his guys as well as me.  I jumped in the pool, and grabbed my cameras while John, his groomsmen, the ringbearers and other family members swam, hung out and played in the pool. Meanwhile, Betsy and her girls were getting ready at her parents house where I arrived a couple hours later to get the last touches, details and then some portraits of her and her girls before heading to the church.  Their wedding was held at the beautiful St. Borromeo catholic church in Pikesville just outside of Baltimore.  After the ceremony, their guests headed to the Greyrock Mansion, just a few miles away for the rest of the evening which was filled with fun toasts by Betsy’s Maid of Honor and John’s brother serving as best man as well as dancing … dancing … dancing … this group can dance and my buddy DJ Jacob Jensen with Absolute Entertainment rocked it and kept the dance floor packed!  It was a truly great and fun night for me, and everyone there.

Under the bright Southern California sun, Cindy and Gregg were wed before an intimate gathering of their closest friends and family members with the picturesque Temecula valley serving as the backdrop. I traveled an hour north from San Diego to Temecula for their wedding at South Coast Winery and Resort, while Cindy, Gregg and all their guests traveled much farther. Cindy & Gregg decided to have destination wedding in Temecula far from their home on the East Coast. They were looking for a destination on the west coast that would be convenient both to Los Angeles for their guests as well as for their honeymoon plans which would be taking them to the South Pacific.

When I arrived at Cindy’s room it was abuzz with activity. Between hair and makeup, her dress being steamed, her friend and officiant coming to ask last minute details about the ceremony, and other family members popping in and out there was a constant flurry of activity. After Cindy’s dress was on, I asked everyone to leave the room, ostensibly to take a few portraits of Cindy by herself, but also to give her what I could tell was some much needed quiet time.

Their ceremony was held just steps from the villa where Cindy got ready.  After their guests had gathered at the rose arbor at South Coast, Cindy was escorted down the aisle by her father while Gregg waited anxiously at the end of the aisle. After the ceremony while their guests went back to the main building at South Coast, Cindy, Gregg and I stayed behind to take advantage of the beautiful scenery of the winery and vineyards surrounding South Coast. Even though it was February and the vines were bare, the landscape of the Temecula Valley is always beautiful.

After portraits Cindy and Gregg joined the cocktail hour before being announced into their first dance. Cindy’s sister made an emotional toast as well as the very emotional dance that Cindy shared with her father. At some point in the evening the wedding wash crashed by a handful of Bavarians in Lederhosen. Uh huh! You read that right!  Then it was on to dancing and cake cutting before the fading light begged me to drag Cindy and Gregg away for a few minutes and some beautiful dusk portraits.

I recently posted some of my favorite photos from Bunmi + Livaughn’s Washington, D.C. wedding at the Colonnade in Washington, D.C., and wanted to also share their video slideshow from the wedding.  Here I get to share some more fantastic images, as well as put them to the incredible music from Ólafur Arnalds.  If you’re not familiar with his music he makes fantastic moody songs and is definitely someone to check out!
